Robert Sweet's date of death was recorded on December 25th, 1944. He was a Private First Class, U.S. Army. He did not have any awards at the time, but on after his death, he was awarded a Purple Heart. A Purple Heart is a distinguished military award in the name of the President to the soldiers who have either been wounded or killed while serving in the army. Soldiers that survived the sinking of the SS Leopoldville were not allowed to speak about it, as they were threated to lose their GI bill if they did. It was not known until 1995 that the ship had sunk.

Robert Chester Sweet was hard working man, supporting his family along with his father when he was younger. He was active in his community through sports and his work. He was older than most men when he was drafted, and while he was not married or had kids, he still has family now that upkeeps his legacy. He was a Pennsylvania native that worked to protect his country and protect the world from evils. He died a tragic death, but he will never be forgotten in the bravery he projected to the world.
